Pre Production. intro

For our first brief in Pre Production we were given 4 cards at random. The from those cards we had to create a 'animation' from it (length depending on what types of card you picked) We have to concentrate fully on the research, design, walk cycles, everything that a pre production animator would have to complete in the industry standard.

My cards were;

• Childrens feature film.
• Art style- Russian icons.
• Character- News proprietor.
• Set- German forest.

At first I had no idea what to do with these.
I could easily come up with ideas but they often seemed a bit too grown up for a childrens feature film. Sure there will be teenagers possibly watching this but i had to take into mind that the younger audience could watch this aswell. In the end I decided that I shouldnt let the audience take over my thought process so I decided to go with some ideas to a extent and if they seem to grown up I can just change it to make it more appropriate for viewers.


To help me think of a interesting story line I did a fair amount of research into the cards. For instance I found a perfect place to base my story (german forest) which was a large forest based in the south/west part of Germany called the Black forest. The main reason why I came to liking the black forest was because i found a news paper article about a boy who was found emerging from the forest explaining that hed been living there for 5 years with his father until his father died, causing him to bury his only parent and travel towards Berlin as his father had instructed him to do if anything happens to them.

I also did a lot of research into the black forest itself, for instance the mountains, lakes, rivers, types of trees, local towns/villages and their celebrations and skills. A swell as the common animals and birds.

I also researched the sights of the black forest. most of the images I found were from travel magazines and sights.
