Our guest lecturer was Luis Cook who is one of the directors at Aardman animation studios who is well know for his short film 'the pearce sisters'
To start the day off we were shown a few of luis's sketch books and we were also shown a few of his commercials and other shorts that he has produced and directed.
This was truelly amazing. I love how in depth he goes with his art styles and pays so much attention to the detail in not only the art but the story, which is what i mostly aim my work towards.
He even mentioned artisits whih inspired him whilst creating the pearce sisters and a few of them were cornish artisits which was a nice touch!
one in particular which i had viewed a few times before hand was Alfred Wallis who paints all his work on washed up pieces of wood and deb-re.
This lesson was really interesting and incredibly useful and im sure everyone else thought the same. We were taught about effective story telling, character design and what makes the audience interested. This helpfull to me as my project is quit odd and doesn't exactly have a set in stone story as its up to the viewer to make a story from it but It gave me ideas as to how i can adjust the setting, style and general impression of the story.
This leads me on to our feedback for our animatics,
Luis watched everyones animatics and met up with us in 2 groups to discuss what he got from the animatics and if they made sense and looked good. He didn't know what any of us had done and hadn't seen any of our pre work, so he could have fresh eyes and fresh point of view on the projects.
When it came to my project i was told that he felt the emotions and had the sense of a relationship being formed then drastically broken, Which in a way it is, but again its not a specific story, the whole meaning for the project is to introduce a story from the imagination using the art forms; music dance and art.
So it was really interesting to hear what he imagined from it. However he told me to watch out as he also got a sense of male oppression through watching the animatic.
This was slightly awkward as he was the first person to bring it up after watching it whilst many other said they didn't get that feeling.
However not to upset anyone who watches it and it comes across as a male oppressed film i have made a few small changes so that it doesn't offend.
But on a good note we found out which projects were chosen......out of 12 projects...............All of them were chosen which is good as everyone had brilliant ideas..however i know a few people are slightly upset as this means that there wont be as many people to work on their projects, for instance some people have over 7 people working on their projects while other projects only has 2 or 3. But well done to everyone for getting chosen and lets work damn hard!
