assistant_ nooooo- yes yes no

coloured in scene - yes yes no project

In this scene i helped clean the lines and colour in the points that the director wanted the eye to draw into. i used the software TVpaint which was excellent to give a water colour effect which, to me, looks more like a soft crayon.

domino_shelves2- yes yes no

using the same domino shelves from the previous video i tried a different way to show the shelves..personally Im not happy with it but the director likes it.

domino_shelves-yes yes no

Here is a shot of the shelves doing a domino effect. I also experimented a bit with the shelves by putting an under lay i decided against it as it looked like a mirror image. sorry its so short but its the speed needed for the final peice.

Carl research for body movement

For the movement of Carl i looked at other animators work and how they move the human body with a specific characteristic.
Here are a few links to some animation tests from animators in the 2D industry

The reason why i looked at these in particular is because i was fascinated with the use of squash and stretch, which i think could be linked in with the body of Carl.
Before we finalised the character of Carl we looked at how each character would look if they were an animal. We mostly came up with the likes of a timid mouse, mole and other small delicate creatures but in my research i came across some test animations for the goose out of aristocrats, and the movement and waddling that this character had influenced me a lot in thinking that Carl could be slightly clumsy and whimsical.

So yer I hope my chosen videos help explain what i mean more than how i describe it =]

Group project Yes,Yes,Yes,No. Background designs revised

This Background still needs to be finished

We are trying out different colours for these backgrounds. Were not sure wether or not to have then black and white or have a little bit of colour. But the technique I used for these images was to cut out the for ground object and stick them onto the background itself and draw round them to give them a bit of depth. I also played around with different thickness of lines.

Group work.

As part of my group work i had to draw out the facial expressions,

turn arounds for the main character carl, his wife and his crush.

Aswell as those i drew out some props and character action poses.

Group work - Backgrounds.

Back to the group project, I explained that we had changed the idea but the art background format is still pretty similar to what i had for the origional idea. Heres the background i did before inwhich im going to change into a super market setting instead of an office.

The technique I used was a influence from paddington bear. were it was filmed on a small stop motion set and give the appearance of depth they cut out a few objects such as tables and chairs (2D still. no 3D drawings) and propped them up. In my sketchbook i decided to stick down many layers upon layers to give it more of a 3D feel towards it.

Heres 2 that i did to show you what i mean....

Mindless Self Indulgence - Shut Me Up (Explicit) - Group project

This music video i remember from a few years ago (when i was still in my very goth/emo faze) but i like the use of character movement in this video. the use of static film i find fascinating, but i feel our character could be based on this cashier. mostly due to the fact that they both hate their lives at the current moment in time and its expressed in a dark humor which is what were heading towards.
The colour scheme is in contrast with the characters mood which helps give the feel of the persons enegery and expression throughout their day.
Generally its helped me think of different character movements towards its surroundings and fellow character.

Tim Burton's early short "stalk of the celery monster- group work

This animation that was created by Tim Burton in his younger years has become a strong influence to me for the artistic approach, i love messy lines and scratchy drawings so i hope to put this towards the final piece towards the final animation. but only a little bit.

The reason why I chose this animation from Tims wide collection is because I love the detail of the characters movements towards each other, the use of the body and faceial expression seem minimal due to that fact that this is a unfinished piece but even tho its rough lines it still brings forward a lot of emotion and humour which i hope to bring across in the final animation.

Heres a few frames taken from this short animation that i found brought out a lot of character and feeling, i also chose a few frames because it depicted a lovely use of lines to form the character in a artistic fashion.

Mr Bean - group project

Heres another influential animation that has been round for a while.
Mr Bean the animated series and low and behold there's a super market episode =D

Completely different style from the gorillaz but not by much its still using the use of curves and angles in a comic illustration style but presented a little different, this is more for the child audience and more of a lovable character.

Heres the episode that features the clumsy cluts in the super market =]

This artistic approach is alot like a modern approach of paddignton bears back grounds, but more refined and precise. But they both are a very flat based background with not very much depth. However the thick black lines help give each object a more 3D effect.
