Looking into trails for the inky female (2D)

Here are some research images to help myself and the other 2D animators get a feel and understanding as to the inky-ness i would like in the female character in the beginning. Looking into 'Fantasia 2000' (Firebird) aswell as 'Paranorman' and looking at the movements that Glen Kean brought across for the 'little Mermaid' What with her hair in water and how it moves around according to the body.

Norman McLaren Pas de Deux 1968 (infinitus artificium research)

This short film really inspired me, After a long discussion with others with how to make this project even better Norman McLaren was mentioned and after i researched his work i found this and beleive that it could be incredibly usefull to my project.

With this video i love the time lapse that is displayed by both female and male characters. I beleive this could go really well with the hope section as i was a bit stuck with it when i was creating the last animatic. I think that the time lapse idea could go really well with the movement and the emotion. It would be a nice change from the ink and charcoal trail.

The hope section will be done it 3d so we will have to do a few tests to see how the time lapse idea looks!

Norman McLaren - A Phantasy in Colors ( Infinitus artificium research)

Researching into how art and music can go well together i looked into Norman McLaren who is a well known artist of his time and looking through his work i can understand why.

This particular video caught my eye when i was amazed with the use of colours and artistic matterials. I found the dry cracked ink effect incredible and how it all moved and played with and like the music, Its amazingly put together and i really want this to show through my project. the ink swirls to flow with the use of the violins etc. It could be really fun to animate but it will be hard work.

Art and research - Botticelli

The elegance and beauty portrayed through Botticelli's work is over powering and detailed. The lighting and line work is specific, strong and amazing to look into.

Id like the elegance and beauty to shine through this animation and for the human body to not only show fluid movement but to show that art, both modern and old can work well together.  

Art and research - Dali

Dali has been a major influence in my work as long as ive been studying art. 

Ive chosen these pictures which i think work well with the different ways in which you can express the human body. the vivde line work and the expressive angles and shapes to show the feeling and the character of the figures.

I love the experimental aspect that Dali puts through his work and how over the top and extravagant they are. The different shapes which form the body and the sense that the pictures are a bit like mind puzzles.

I think it could be quite exciting to see shapes form into a figure even if its for a second glance.

Art and research - Egon Scheile

What i love about Egone Scheile's work is the energy in it. that not all his pictures are through the same style yet resemble and work well together in their electric and awkward ways. 

Awkward because the bodies are so disconnected and abstract that it shouldn't really work and yet they do. They are filled with new things every time you look at them. as if they are ever changing, As if they are teasing the eyes and pranking them. sounds odd i know but thats how i feel. every time i look at them im just amazed that i didnt notice something the last time i looked at them.

The art style is excellent, full of character and enjoyment, and a bit of a tease which id like to put through this animation.

Art and research - Kathe Kollwitz

Kathe Kollwitz work is mostly dark and sinister which i think would mold well with my hopes of a 'fear' character.

Her drawings are amazingly emotional and full of fear, hurt and pain.

the way that she shows these emotions through the lines and the roughness is harsh and brutal. 

Her work is a combination of charcoal and etching, both oozing with despair for the character. you can feel what they would be going through or what they are trying to put across to the viewer. there is no beauty in how they feel but there is plenty of beauty in the way it is portrayed and displayed.

Art and research - Laguna

 Looking into the art style of Laguna i found that his style is a more raw and 'street' version of Ryan Woodwards art style what with the fact that they both create incredibly fluid and exciting pieces for the eye. Ryan Woodwards work is more organic looking, rough sketching and messy....not messy in a bad way! not at all,  i mean it like its not always neat lines and the rough jaggered work, specially in his life drawings give the character more base to it which is beautiful to look at.

With Laguna his work is fluid and organic but its neat. the lines are based with a purpose and the character is caught in a frame yet giving off the effect that they are still moving. similar again to Ryan Woodwards work.

 the swirls and patters are part of what makes the figure. as if an ink bottle has spilt and starts off with just swirls and patterns then the figure emerges or bursts out.

Art and research - Iemza

Iemza is an artist that i have always enjoyed and love everything that he creates. His work is flawless, static, energetic and fairly electric, you feel like there is a current going through his pieces and that they  could possibly move and rip away at the paper. 

Id like to incorporated this into my work with one of the pieces, quite possibly the fear transforming into hope. By the fact that they look happy yet feared, like their in limbo as to what emotion they really are.

I love it

I also like the coldness you get whilst staring at the images and id love to see these move in a figurative dance piece.
